BOMA Québec’s BUILDING ENERGY CHALLENGE

The building energy challenge was a 4-year competition aimed at reducing the energy consumption and GHG emissions of commercial, institutional and multi-residential buildings in Quebec. The Center joined the adventure in 2018.

After receiving an award in 2020 for improving its energy performance, the Center completed the challenge in 2021, receiving the GHG Target Achievement Award – Diamond Category for reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 50 to 90% over 4 years. 

AEE 2021 Regional Award

Also in 2021, the Center receive the Corporate Energy Management award, presented to a company, agency or organization that has distinguished itself by developing, implementing and maintaining an energy management plan. 

ASHRAE 2021 Award

In 2021, the MDD also received an ASHRAE award in the “Commercial Building Cx” category. The Center would like to thank Ecosystem for its invaluable support, which enabled us to reduce our energy consumption by 35% and its GHG emissions by 90%. 

Durabilys 2016 Excellence Award

On March 23, 2016, the Center won the Award of Excellence in Category 1 – LEED New Construction and Major Renovation at the Durabilys Gala, an initiative of the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC).

Event Venue Award – Les Vivats Gala 2014

In April 2014, the Center was awarded the Lieu d’accueil prize at the third edition of Les Vivats gala. Organized by the Conseil québécois des événements écoresponsables (CQEER), this competition rewards the best responsible practices in Quebec’s event industry.

Jury’s Choice Award – 2014 Energia Contest

The Center was awarded the Jury’s choice award at the 24th annual Energia Awards, organized by the Association québécoise pour la maîtrise de l’énergie (AQME). The jury recognized the excellent work of the Center’s integrated design team and its innovative, efficient and proven technologies. With its unrivalled energy performance, the Center is synonymous with “ingenuity, innovation and success”, and would be “an example to follow in terms of environmental impact”, according to the AQME.


Nomination – 2014 Montreal Environment and Sustainable Development Recognition Gala

The Center was a finalist in the “NPO (associations and groups)” category of the 2014 Gala de reconnaissance en environnement et développement durable de Montréal for its 2013 programming.   

The Gala represents a privileged moment of recognition and mobilization around innovative and exemplary initiatives, carried out by partners committed to the Plan de développement durable de la collectivité montréalaise 2010-2015, which improves the quality of the Montreal living environment. 


Award of Excellence – Canadian Consulting Engineering 2013 Awards

At the grand gala of the 2013 Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards, the Bouthillette Parizeau team of consulting engineers won an award of excellence in the “Building” category for the Center’s project. The jury, won over by this “living laboratory designed to educate the public about green building”, called the Center a “showcase of best practices in engineering and sustainable development.” 

People’s Choice Award 2013 – Québec Order of Architects

The Center along with the Menkès Shooner Dagenais LeTourneux Architectes team are proud to have won the Ordre des architectes du Québec’s 2013 Audience Award at the Prix d’excellence en architecture (PEA) awards. The prize was awarded after the compilation of votes from more than 11,600 people on the Ordre des architectes du Québec’s website. 

Honourable mention – Contech Innovation and Sustainable Development 2013 Award

A special mention in the “ICI building (institutional, commercial or industrial): innovative practice” category was awarded at the 25th edition of the Contech Innovation and Sustainable Development Trophies to the teams from Menkès Shooner Dagenais LeTourneux Architectes and Bouthillette Parizeau inc. for their use of integrated design processes in the Center’s project from the get-go. 

Visionary Award 2013

At the 11th edition of the Grands Prix du génie-conseil québécois, the Center’s project, carried out by the firm Bouthillette Parizeau for Équiterre, was awarded a Léonard in the “Mechanical – Electrical Building” category, in addition to winning the Visionary Award, given to a project with a particular value in terms of innovation, boldness or proactivity.

Armatura 2013 Prize

The Center won the 2013 Armatura Award in the “Coup de cœur” category. This competition recognizes excellence in steel-reinforced concrete structures. In awarding this prize to the Center, the Institut d’acier d’armature du Québec is highlighting the expertise and creativity of the team behind this initiative. The Center’s team would like to congratulate Équiterre, Menkès Shooner Dagenais Létourneux Architectes, engineers Pasquin St-Jean et associés and Pomerleau inc. for their contribution to this innovative project. 

Elixir Project 2012 Award 

The Center for sustainable development was one of four finalists for PMI Montréal’s Prix Élixir – Project of the Year 2012. This award recognizes excellence in project management. Congratulations to Sylvain GrandMaison, who did an outstanding job working with Équiterre to bring the Center to fruition.

In March 2012, the Center was awarded an Excellence in Real Estate prize in the “Commercial Building” category at the Institut de développement urbain du Québec (IDU) gala. According to the IDU, the Center stood out for its highly innovative financial and legal structure, its cutting-edge technology aimed at LEED Platinum certification, and its advanced social and educational development in terms of sustainable development.   

Plumbing Engineering 2011 Award

The engineering firm responsible for mechanical and electrical engineering at the Center, Bouthillette Parizeau, received the 2011 Plumbing Engineering award from The American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE).
